UK Vape Tax: If you vape in the UK, October 2026 probably feels miles away.

It’s not.

From 1 October 2026, the government is introducing a new Vaping Products Duty (VPD) — a flat £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid (that’s 22p per ml), regardless of nicotine strength.
And yep… it’s designed to apply broadly to vaping liquids, including liquids intended to be vapourised that aren’t medical or tobacco products — which is why people are talking about 0mg shortfills being affected too.

What’s actually changing in October 2026?

In plain English: every ml of vape liquid gets hit with a fixed excise duty.

So the bigger the bottle… the bigger the tax.

Here’s the quick maths using the published duty rate:

  • 10ml bottle → £2.20 duty
  • 50ml shortfill → £11.00 duty
  • 2ml pod → £0.44 duty

There’s also a second layer most people miss: VAT is generally charged on a value that includes duties, which is why duty tends to push shelf prices up by more than just the duty amount.

What about duty stamps?

Alongside the duty, there’s a Vaping Duty Stamps (VDS) scheme. Approvals open from 1 April 2026, stamps become compulsory to affix from 1 October 2026, and there’s a big compliance cliff edge from 1 April 2027 for products outside duty suspension needing a stamp.

Should you stock up before October 2026?
